Our Beginnings
In 2003, the Mahenzo Mission Educational Centre began under a mango tree where members of the Mihongohi Chenda church taught a few children. Later a church building was constructed and made available for the school's use during the week. Mud buildings were also used for classrooms until coral block rooms were gradually added from funds given by friends of the school.

Throughout this time, these principles have been embraced:

Throughout this time these principles have been embraced:

School Vision: To provide quality education and develop talents and skills for the future
School Mission: To provide a good learning environment for improved performances in developing the child mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually
School Motto: Love for knowledge brings success.

"We wanted a school where poor parents could be able to send their children to receive a quality education."

Our Impact
Students:
Today there are over 500 primary and secondary students at MMEC. The student body is a mixture of paying and sponsored children.

Teachers and Infrastructure:
Currently 21 teachers and 8 staff members lead the children's education. Mahenzo’s campus includes 15 classrooms, a dormitory for girls, and a conference center for school and church events. Four fields of maize are cultivated to help feed the children, and a clinic on campus serves their health needs. Each year the school shows growth in infrastructure and in its capacity to provide a solid education for the community's children.

Partnerships:
Mahenzo is a private school. Students pay fees to attend. Vulnerable children who may be fatherless or total orphans are assisted through sponsorships. This school has been able to grow and keep its doors open through the years with help and/or sponsorships from Monterey Church of Christ, Wavizi, Christian Relief Fund, Caris Kenya, and Rolling Hills Church of Christ in conjunction with the leadership of Mahenzo's Board of Directors and staff as they stretch all available resources to educate the new generation of this community.
