Minister Training

Opportunities are available for church leaders from surrounding villages to spend intensive times of study at Uzima. Typically, these courses are offered while schools are on holiday during the months of April, August, and December. Ministers come to Uzima, sleep on mattresses inside the building and participate in two weeks of classes. They share experiences, and teachings are given and received to prepare them to lead their churches effectively. They come back regularly to be refreshed in tactics of godly leadership.

Uzima is an extension program of Nairobi Great Commission School so there is the potential to pursue a basic or advanced certificate in Bible and Mission through these intensive courses.

Seminars

Shorter seminars open to adults interested in times of learning and fellowship are conducted in a similar way as the pastoral leadership training. Uzima also houses seminars for youth and for women.

In the words of Titus Ziro:

“We are training them to deal with different situations in their lives and a lot of that training comes out of focusing on the spiritual.”

The seminars and course offerings make for a lot of activity on the grounds of Uzima Christian Training Centre during the school holidays.

"The name Uzima comes from John 10:10: 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.'"
– Titus Ziro
Evangelism
The Uzima ministry team focuses on evangelism and pastoral care. They teach, encourage and plant churches in village areas. Titus Ziro, Daniel Kahindi, and Mathias Charo frequently visit rural churches during the week and on Sundays. At times other leaders accompany them on their visits. They worship with churches in rural areas and meet with leaders to mentor them. They recognize the need to nurture and encourage the pastors and the churches.

"If they have a problem, they share it with us and we figure out how we can solve that problem together.” –Titus Ziro

On other days, these three men are out in villages. They go from home to home evangelizing to families. They share the word of God with people who may have never heard it. If a family does already follow Jesus, then they encourage them to continue in their faith.

They do not want to start a church and then leave them on their own. Instead, they go back to continue nurturing and encouraging the pastors and the churches. Uzima believes this is an important part of evangelism.

malindi Church of christ

Uzima Christian Training Centre is located in the Mtangani area of Malindi. In addition to the centre being used for the trainings mentioned elsewhere, the Malindi Church of Christ also actively uses this space. As in most churches, there is a youth group, a women’s group, and a men’s group, each led by a committee of their peers. The Uzima Mission School has also been organized and is operated by the church.

This training centre was built as a place for churches of Christ meeting in areas around Malindi, urban and rural churches from Kilifi county, to come together for times of learning and fellowship. Honoring that tradition and desiring opportunities for fellowship, Malindi Church of Christ hosts a gathering of hundreds on Easter Sunday where churches in Malindi and rural areas celebrate together at Uzima. This church also lives out its mission for mutual encouragement through other opportunities, such as visits that groups of women from the church make to churches in rural areas on Sundays.

The Sunday School sings to the congregation during a Sunday morning service.
