The different facets of Mahenzo’s initiatives are all grounded in the spiritual foundations that were laid thirty years ago. In addition to the concentration on development as tangible fruit that is visible in the physical realm, spirituality is also still its own focus. Studying God’s word, prayer and fellowship are pieces that Mahenzo remains involved in on a regular basis. Often these occasions overlap with Uzima’s training in Christian leadership and Bible. In addition, Mahenzo provides training opportunities for different groups in coordination with visiting U.S. church leaders as well as with each individual Mahenzo team member.

A significant number of students who attend Mahenzo Mission Education Centre also attend church at Mahenzo. With a growing church and young minds to shape, there was a need for more direct emphasis on spiritual formation. They began a school program on Friday mornings where the students are divided into small groups to discuss their struggles and to study about the love of God. Teachers lead the groups, creating the opportunity for deeper relationships between the teachers and the students. In addition to the spiritual benefits, this program has led to enhanced performance in the students' studies and has promoted self-discipline as they come to understand the significance of following the Way of Jesus.
